FINALLY! I can sync Google Calendar via SyncML
It’s here.. The service I’ve been screaming for: Goosync It allows you to sync Google Calendar via SyncML (OMA DS). This means that I can sync my Nokia N70 with Gcal really easy and free (it’s in beta, so who knows for how long it’s free).
The site looks a bit shady, like it might be fishing for Google Account usernames and passwords, but a short background check of the Goosync domain registrar showed toffa.com to be the owner. Toffa makes sync software for ex. Skype and Groupwise and more standard stuff. So unless it’s a really elaborate scheme to make Goosync look credible, I’d say it’s okay. Uh.. and btw. IT WORKS!
UPDATE to this article found here
I’ve been screeming for a Gcal <-> SyncML service for a long time. GcalSync appeared, and eventough its a java client and not “native” SyncML, I was happy. Only problem is it doesn’t work.. I picked up on “Goosync“http://www.goosync.com/affiliate.aspx?ID=vinterstille on the Google Group: GcalSync. I admire the work effort put in to GcalSync – but I need something that works, not necessarily free open source software (FOSS).
Goosync works like this: You sign up, leaving your standard data, Google Account info and mobile phone number (in the format +[countrycode][phonenumber] ex. +4545454545). They send you a sms with your new Goosync settings, and your’e ready to go. On my Nokia N70, thats capable of being configured over the air, you simply select: Options -> Add to settings. The sync profile is then automatically set up.
1-2-3 sync !

Update one hour later: I just recieved this email from GooSync:
Hi Klaus,
Thanks for the Blog, we do understand your/there concerns;
Firstly, let me assure you that your Google credentials are passed to goosync.com securely over https and stored encrypted in our database, these are only used by the goosync.com service to access your Google Calendar account.
Secondly, let me tell you we are looking at other ways to authenticate with Google. Google now provide “Account Authentication Proxy for Web-Based Applications” see http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/AuthForWebApps.html
We will use this method of authenticating in the next release of GooSync.com (end of month) This will enable you as a user to grant permissions to GooSync.com and not reveal you credentials.
Thanks
Chris.
